Christmas Frights by Dawn Colclasure ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Christmas Frights is an absolute treat for horror fans who want a festive twist with their scares. Dawn Colclasure masterfully combines the holiday spirit with bone-chilling terror, creating a collection of darkly imaginative poems and stories that will leave you laughing, cringing, and maybe double-checking your Christmas tree for hidden axes. If you love twisted holiday tales, this one’s a must-read. 🎄☠️
🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨
The collection kicks off with A Tree of Heads, where a host proudly displays his Christmas tree “decorated” with miniature heads. The twist? They’re made from his unfortunate guests, whom he processes in a grotesque machine to create “ornaments.” The macabre imagery is both horrifying and hilariously creative.
Another standout is Rudolph’s Revenge, which flips the beloved reindeer’s story into a bloody tale of vengeance. Fed up with years of bullying from the other reindeer, Rudolph takes matters into his own hooves, using a hatchet to ensure he’s never mocked again. The visual of Santa casually shrugging at the carnage, saying, “I guess I’ll have to get new reindeer,” had me laughing out loud.
And let’s not forget Santa and His Slay. This Santa doesn’t bring joy—he brings an axe. The image of him dressed in black, stalking through homes, and delivering his own brand of Christmas punishment is pure nightmare fuel.
One of the creepiest entries is The Children on Santa’s Naughty List. In this tale, naughty kids aren’t just scolded—they’re abducted, turned into elves, and forced into eternal servitude at the North Pole. The line, “Santa finds new children to take back with him to become elves,” sent shivers down my spine.
Colclasure’s writing shines in its vivid descriptions and dark humor. Whether it’s murderous snowmen (Slaughtering Snowmen) or stockings filled with terror (Surprises in the Stocking), each piece is packed with gruesome creativity.
“The tree chopped up the family living there, satisfied with itself. Then, the wood fairy returned the tree to its rightful place in the forest ground.” (The Poor Christmas Tree)
This collection isn’t for the faint of heart—it’s graphic, darkly comedic, and unrelenting in its horror. But if you’re someone who likes their Christmas tales with a side of gore, Christmas Frights is an absolute delight.
