To Hell With Hallmark by Brad Ricks ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book is for you if you’ve ever rolled your eyes at a Hallmark Christmas movie. Brad Ricks delivers a hilarious, gory, and totally bonkers take on holiday cheer in To Hell With Hallmark. It’s a satire, a splatterpunk nightmare, and a dark love letter to Christmas all rolled into one. 🎄🩸

The story starts in Hallmark, Vermont—a town straight out of a cheesy holiday movie, complete with tree lightings, cookie competitions, and an ever-present blanket of snow. But this time, things take a dark turn. From murderous gingerbread men to romantic plot twists with a body count, Hallmark’s idyllic facade is peeled back to reveal the chaos and carnage underneath.

🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨
One of the standout moments is the Gingerbread Cookie Throwdown. At first, it seems like a typical Hallmark competition, but when the cookies come alive—armed with miniature swords and daggers—it becomes a full-on battle royale. Tray Eight’s horde of small but fierce gingerbread men was pure chaos, but Tray Eleven’s massive, melted monstrosity stole the show in the most horrifying way. The image of its jagged, melted stare is seared into my brain.

The book also follows Jenny, the Hallmark librarian looking for love, and Glenn, the charming stranger who arrives in town with his golden retriever. But Glenn isn’t who he seems, and the reveal of his true nature is chilling. The line, “The dimples gave you away...I’m your biggest fan,” as Jenny turns the tables on him, is both empowering and terrifying.

Its absurdity and dark humor balance make To Hell With Hallmark shine. It twists every Hallmark trope—small-town charm, romantic meet-cutes, and holiday traditions—into something grotesque yet wildly entertaining.

To Hell With Hallmark is the perfect pick if you’re in the mood for a holiday story that’s equal parts festive and horrifying. Just be warned: you’ll never look at gingerbread cookies the same way again.
