His Cinderella: A Story with Potential That Falls a Bit Flat ⭐⭐
Vivi Paige’s His Cinderella had all the ingredients for a gripping dark romance—an intriguing setup, a conflicted heroine, and a powerful, possessive hero—but unfortunately, it doesn’t quite hit the mark. While there are moments of tension and drama, the story sometimes struggles with repetitive dialogue and uneven pacing, leaving it feeling a bit underwhelming.
🚨 Spoilers Ahead! 🚨
The plot follows Ella Ashmore, a once-talented ballerina who’s now facing hard times, and Deryk Mayne, a mysterious and obsessive man who enters her life at her lowest point. The initial premise of Ella being “rescued” from a degrading situation and thrust into Deryk’s intense world is compelling, but their relationship lacks the emotional depth needed to make it feel authentic.
Deryk is meant to be a possessive alpha hero, but his controlling tendencies often seem more unsettling than romantic. Ella, meanwhile, has moments when her strength and vulnerability shine, but she’s frequently overshadowed by Deryk’s overpowering presence. The tension between them is palpable, but the story rushes through their development, leaving the romance feeling unbalanced.
The auction scene where Deryk steps in to “save” Ella is undeniably dramatic and had me hooked, even if the follow-through left me wanting more.
"You’re mine, Ella. Always have been, always will be."
While there are some engaging moments, the story’s reliance on clichés and predictable twists makes it hard to fully connect with the characters. That said, fans of dark romance who enjoy high-stakes drama and possessive heroes may still find something to enjoy here.
His Cinderella had potential, but it didn’t quite deliver on its promise. However, with a little more focus on character development and balance in the relationship dynamics, Vivi Paige could have something truly captivating in future works.
